TOUR: BEST OF ZIMBABWE : Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park and Mana Pools (8 days / 7 nights)
The gateway to this diverse and unique combination of river and bush experiences is Victoria Falls where the mighty Zambezi plunges headlong into the foaming white waters of cataracts and rugged gorges on its relentless journey to the Indian Ocean. It is an awesome and unforgettable experience within an unspoilt setting of captivating beauty as the spray rises in a rainbow array of vibrant colours. Truly the ‘Smoke that Thunders’ is one of the greatest natural wonders in the world and a ‘must see’ for most eco-tourists.
Beyond and to the south lies Hwange National Park situated on the eastern edge of the Kalahari Desert. It is a vast reserve of broad-leafed woodland, acacia scrub and a scattering of salt pans supporting an enormous abundance of wildlife. Elephant, buffalo, lion , leopard, wild dog, roan, sable, giraffe, impala, cheetah, honey badger and many more in the way of some of Africa’s smallest mammals and most colourful birds are found within the diverse mix of habitats available for exploration.
Downstream of Victoria Falls in the heart of the Zambezi Valley not far from the Mozambique border a combination of ‘four pools’ within an ancient river channel combine to give this especially unique Park its Shona name – Mana Pools. Here large concentrations of elephant and buffalo are to be found along the river’s edge. Add to this the rich diversity of other mammals, including leopard, lion, wild dog and the hippo, along with a woodland and riverine selection of sought after bird species and you have an idea of what to expect in the way of nature’s delights.
Highlights:A night in the beautifully restored and well maintained Victoria Falls Hotel directly above the most spectacular gorges below the falls. Day and night game drives and guided walks within the spectrum of different habitats within Hwange or simply relaxing and enjoying ‘siesta’ time back at camp. Mana Pools, overlooking the Zambezi River, offers a combination of wildlife experiences from the comfort of a 4X4 or motorised pontoon boat or even canoes for the more adventurous along with guided bush walks on request.
Best Time of year:Best visited during the cool, dry months from April to September for game viewing, while December to March is excellent for bird watching as all the intra-Africa migrants will have arrived with the onset of the summer rains.
Budget: for all three destinations and for Vic Falls and Hwange as a combo.
Our suggested Add-ons:Duration within the combination of three destinations can be adjusted to accommodate varying holiday needs and stated comfort levels to make up a tailored safari. As such the itinerary is totally flexible and will be quoted on accordingly. Note the link to Hwange from Victoria Falls is a choice of overland or fly-in, while Mana Pools can only be accessed by air charter. |
